I'm afraid it goes much further than that. What we're whitnessing is
really a war about control of information. To illustrate this, i've just
googled for "Ron-Paul", US president candidate, on the Dutch google. On
"internet" I get 69.900 pages in Dutch. On news, I get 4. This is what
Ron Paul says about privacy and personal liberty:

http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/privacy-and-personal-liberty/

"The biggest threat to your privacy is the government. We must
drastically limit the ability of government to collect and store data
regarding citizens’ personal matters.

We must stop the move toward a national ID card system. All states are
preparing to issue new driver’s licenses embedded with “standard
identifier” data — a national ID. A national ID with new tracking
technologies means we’re heading into an Orwellian world of no privacy.
I voted against the Real ID Act in March of 2005."

How come that the guy who is most popular on internet is ignored by the
mainstream media?

It's because the media isn't as free as we think it is, because with the
commercialisation of the mainstream media, the mainstream media are
owned by private institutions. That means the mainstream media can be
controlled and in fact are being controlled by "the industry" a.k.a.
"Wall Street". There's much more to that, but maybe this is a good start:

And then start following the money, all the way to who actually controls
the federal reserve.

Now the internet today still is a place where free speech flourishes, a
place still out of control of governments. That's why I know about Ron
Paul and a lot of other things, like the link between Al Qaida and Nazi
Germany:

And the link between Bush and Nazi Germany:

And the link between "Wall Street" and fascism:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/document/document_20070723.shtml
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Plot

"The Business Plot (also known as the Plot Against FDR or the White
House Putsch) was a political conspiracy in 1933 where several wealthy
businessmen and corporations planned to overthrow the presidency of
Franklin D. Roosevelt. [...]

Veterans of Foreign Wars commander James E. Van Zandt. "Less than two
months" after General Butler warned him, he said "he had been approached
by 'agents of Wall Street' to lead a Fascist dictatorship in the United
States under the guise of a 'Veterans Organization.' "

And a link between al that and control of the media:

http://www.geocities.com/graysinfo/goebbels.html

“The effective propagandist must be a master of the art of speech, of
writing, of journalism, of the poster and of the leaflet. He must have
the gift to use the major methods of influencing public opinion such as
the press, film and radio to serve his ideas and goals, above all in an
age of advancing technology.” -- Joseph Goebbles
