    Why is this a "concession" to the authors? Incidentally, in my perception, 
    the *actual* authors deserve support.

Many authors are good people and supporting their work is a good
thing, but that is not what the issue is.  The issue is whether their
interests (real or fictional) are as important as our freedom.
