[pp.int.general] Proposal: PPI Report on Telecoms Package

Hello:

As you should know, last wednesday the Telecoms Package was passed in first reading by the Europarliament. It has too many harmful points and requires a considerable change, thinking of its second reading at the EU Council -formed by the governments of the EU Member States-.

As worked together with Green Informatics and FFII and, incidentally, with Quadrature du Net -sharing viewpoint in most amendments (though having nuances in some of them, specially Bono Amendment and its Trautmann Re-amendment), and not having made joint analysis of the very Trautmann & Harbour reports-, PIRATA is going to release as soon as possible an analysis of the passed texts -the rest of organisations have already made their own-; I want to suggest that such analysis may become the basis for PPI to develop a joint report on amendments to the text passed in first reading, amendments to be proposed to the EU Council.

Thinking of how close is the European Election, this PPI Report on Telecoms Package would may boost our media focus as an international movement, and also within the efforts going to be made by Andrew to launch a joint PRs Group in PPI, would work in enhancing our joint task groups mechanisms; we may follow the same procedure as used to answer the EC Consultations. Would want to know what do you think about it and, if you enjoy this idea as a good chance for PPI, as soon as we have the analysis ready we would start working on the report. Regards,

                                                                   Carlos Ayala
