Sorry, I did not want to offend you.
In my country, the liberals always represented the (nouveau) riche in the
luxury suburbs, advocated lower taxes, and the captains of industry.
In recent years, the Dutch liberals are becoming increasingly conservatist,
advocating law & order, criticising privacy advocates, objecting
immigration, even criticizing human rights. They removed some right wing
extremists from the party, but they became so succesful afterwards, that our
liberals now are also "extermenting" with more extremist positions, because
in the polls they are in dire straits.
My observation on US liberals was primarily meant to make the contrast. the
US situtation is very different. Even socialism is considered a questionable
thing in the US - while it is quite mainstream in virtually every European
country.
