the Public interest
To: a2k at lists.essential.org

Dear all,

I am happy to announce a Greens/EFA Workshop on ACTA and the Public
Interest on May 4 in the European Parliament, appropriately timed soon
after the Commission's debriefing on the outcome of New Zealand round.
It is high time to come together to share perspectives and goals on ACTA
campaigning and I am looking forward to a fruitful discussion with our
speakers and other participants. I welcome all of you to participate
in-person or online via the webcast and chat. Our campaign page is here:
http://act-on-acta.eu

Program pasted below.

Best regards,

Erik Josefsson

Greens/EFA and Activists Workshop on ACTA and the Public interest

* When: 4 May 2010, 16.00-18.00
* Where: Room A5E1, Altiero Spinelli Building (ASP), 60 Rue Wiertz,
European Parliament, Brussels
* Host: Carl Schlyter MEP, Co-host: Christian Engström MEP
* Chair: Ska Keller MEP

The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) is being negotiated to
establish higher intellectual property and enforcement standards while
serving the interests of rights holders, including publishers, media
conglomerates, and pharmaceutical companies. However, protecting the
rights and interests of the public has received scant attention. This
workshop looks at ACTA from a public interest perspective, and provides
a platform for open dialogue and discussion.

The workshop will be open to internet participation through a webcast
and chat. If you need an EP entrance badge, send an email to
<carl.schlyter at europarl.europa.eu> for instructions. Further
announcements on this page.
