As this "movement" started in the US, I'll speak from my American
perspective. Next year, 1/3 of the Senate (33), all of the House of
Representatives (435), the Presidency, 11 governorships and countless seats
in state assemblies and municipal governments will go up for election. The
Occupy this and that business is just a waste of potential. The way to
create real change is to hold power in the system, and that can only happen
if you actually run for an elected office. You only have to be 25 to be a
Congressman, 21 (in most states) to be in the state assembly or 30 to be a
senator. It's quite obvious the idealism is there, but it has to be
channeled into constructive political action.
I empathize with the basic frustration with the system, but I took my
frustration and decided to run for the district 86 seat in the Florida State
House of Representatives from the Florida Pirate Party. We need to get
people off Wall Street and on the campaign trail if we're actually going to
accomplish anything.
