Hello,

On Sat, Oct 9, 2010 at 9:07 PM, Rick Falkvinge (Piratpartiet) <rick@piratpartiet.se> wrote:

I just wanted to say that I really liked this initiative, and that this
kind of things is one of the things PPI should be doing to help PPxx.

Being able to follow press releases (on Twitter, RSS and web) from all
the parties, autotranslated into English, helps me tremendously in
following PPxx. This is all about information.

This kind of activity helps the movement exponentially more than writing
statutes.

Thanks, that's what we were hoping for!

All PPs: I believe you have a mail from a PPI rep asking for details for
your press release flow.

(However, the Spanish ones aren't autotranslated. Is there a technical
reason as to why?)

It seems that our auto-translator has some problems with Spanish/Chile. We will look into this and try to solve it soon!

There are also other things we want to improve, so while it should already be possible to profit from the site, it's not final yet!

@ Christian:

Press releases are protected by copyright. Even if you publish them under CC, most of the time the CC license says you can only (re)publish the release if you name the initial author and publish under the same conditions. The press release exchange is not only a feed aggregator, but also allows every member of PPI to use the releases and publish under their name (which is contrary to the common CC license!). However it is allowed to edit and publish without naming the initial author if that author gives you the authorization to do so.

For some countries this does not apply, f.ex. Sweden explicitly says "no copyright" on their website. Other Pirate Parties use a CC license, where, as I explained, an express authorization from the author is needed for anyone to use their work without any requirements.

Regards,

Jerry

Cheers,
Rick
