Lately I've seen a number of calls to action for "Black March" whose
participants are urged not to acquire any kind of artistic works
during March 2012 [1].
The idea behind it is to deny profits to the "content industry" in
order to stop them from their heavy loobying activities.

In it's current form I would strongly advise against participating or
continue spreading it!
I urge all pirates to participate solely with a heavily sophisticated
version of this action or otherwise to publicly distance themselves
from it.

In the current form it's one of the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
I appreciate the intention, but unforntunately that will likely not
matter: Likely mass media will display those participating to be
against art or artists in general.
Thus, those who support it (or are jus even just getting linked to it)
will be placed close to the most inhumane regimes known in the history
of mankind.

To propose an alternative: It would be way better and more
sophisticated to program and distribute programs that warn users of
artistic works, that have beem
which are marketed by corporations which use said lobbying, such as
the "big 6" [3]. This has been has already been done for SOPA / PIPA,
making, so it is it possible [2a][2b].

I write this now, as there seems to be more and more supporter of this
call to action in it's unsophisticated, poulistic and dangerous
version
I have been personally supporting artists and programmers for years
that work on their own an not via the "content industry"; I will
continue to so in March as well.
>From my perspective one of the aim of the pirate movement is the
liberation of art from copyright, but it has never been the liberation
of the world from art.
However the latter one is a common accusation by opponents of the
pirate movement.
If this action is carried out in the current form without clearly
communicating *in advance* that would be solely targeted at the
"content industry", but not artists it will be used as an argument
against you in mass media.

This is solely my personal opinion. It is not an official
communication as part of any of my current mandates.

Sidenote: I would like to take the opportunity to advertise the
project political javascript. [5]
Hi Pirates International,

In times of ACTA and SOPA it becomes obviously nessecary to discuss Counter-Agreements which represent the interest of the common towards industrial lobbys. The idea is to initiate a multinational agreement, called "international liberty agreement".

The Intention is to set minimal standards for civil liberties, especially but not exclusively in digital networks. The negotiations will be carried out publicly from the beginning. The civil societies and interested organisations will be included into the discussion by the negotiating nations.

You can find More about ILA and the Intention on this URL: https://piratenpad.de/p/ILA-en

So whats my purpose ?

1.
The idea aroused and I like it. So the idea has to be seeded in different Nations.

2.
If there should be some people who are interested in negotiating ILA, the PPI might be the right place to start with.

Have fun reading the Pad!
How this relate to the Free Internet Act? http://www.reddit.com/r/fia
Probably there is a good chance for synergies :)
I think it is much better to support the European Green's proposal to
reform copyright in Europe (which has been drafted by the Swedish PP,
basically).
Hi--

Together, we beat SOPA in a huge victory for internet freedom. But this
Saturday, internet freedom protests are breaking out in over 200 cities
across Europe. Why?

*Because the companies behind SOPA are using international trade agreements
as a backdoor to pass SOPA-style
laws*<http://act.fightforthefuture.org/page/m/2e1f20ae/1d059023/706e8316/f863fe3/1245569059/VEsH/>

SOPA's supporters are pushing two agreements: ACTA and TPP1. ACTA would
criminalize users, encourage internet providers to spy on you, and make it
easier for media companies to sue sites out of existence and jail their
founders. Sound familiar?* *That's right, ACTA is from the same playbook
as SOPA, but global. Plus it didn't even have to pass through Congress2.

TPP goes even farther than ACTA, and the process has been even more
secretive and corrupt. Last weekend (we wish this was a joke) *trade
negotiators partied with MPAA (pro-SOPA) lobbyists before secret
negotiations in a Hollywood hotel, while public interest groups were barred
from meeting in the same building.*3

Trade agreements are a gaping loophole, a secretive backdoor track
that--even though it creates new laws--is miles removed from
democracy. Trade negotiators are unelected and unaccountable, so these
agreements have been *very* hard for internet rights groups to stop.

But now the tide is turning. Fueled by the movement to stop SOPA,
anti-ACTA protests are breaking out across the EU, which hasn't ratified
ACTA. *The protests are having an impact: leaders in Poland, the Czech
Republic, and Slovakia have backtracked on ACTA.*4 *Now a massive round of
street protests in over 200 cities is planned for this Saturday February
11th.*

We're planning an online protest this Saturday to support the protests in
the streets. Why? Because together we can drive millions of emails to key
decision makers--and start tipping the scales like we did on SOPA.

*Can you take part? Click here to get the code to run on your
site!*<http://act.fightforthefuture.org/page/m/2e1f20ae/1d059023/706e8316/f863fe0/1245569059/VEsE/>

We just built an ACTA & TPP contact tool, and it's not just a petition. It's
code for your site that figures out the visitor's country and lets them
email all their Members of European Parliament--the politicians who will be
voting on ACTA in June--or the trade negotiators behind TPP. *This direct
contact between voters and their officials, driven by websites of all
sizes, was instrumental in the fight against SOPA. ** *

We can use the same tactics to defeat ACTA & TPP, but we need your help!

*Support the street protests with a flood of emails to the officials
responsible for ACTA & TPP. Get the code for your
website!*<http://act.fightforthefuture.org/page/m/2e1f20ae/1d059023/706e8316/f863fe0/1245569059/VEsF/>

*Don't have a website? Tell officials in your country to scrap ACTA &
TPP! And spread the word about Saturday's protests!

This is going to be tough fight. But we need to make secretive trade
agreements harder to pass than US law. If we don't, our internet's future
belongs to the lobbyists behind SOPA.
