I can understand and of course respect that the EDRI prefer to avoid accusations of partisanship. Alas, from PPI's point of view I think it would be very good to have some kind of official or semi-official relationship (not just a dialogue) with EDRI from the point of view of both gaining information and making themselves of some note among the circles of people making the laws in this crucial area.
I dont think it would do either us or EDRI any good if PPI tried to become members of EDRI. They benefit from being seen as non partisan. At the same time we have a close dialogue with their office here in Brussels. So what would be the gain?
AFAIK EDRi generally aims at being rather non-partisan; which could
be a problem. Furthermore I consider it necessary to (at least)
consult with the pirate offices at the EU before going into that
direction.
But I certainly had good personal contacts with people at EDRi,
appreciate their work and certain that further synergies will arise
soon again.
Don't you think worth considering the idea that PPI ask for membership of
the "Digital Civil Rights in Europe" (EDRI) not-for-profit,
non-governmental organisation?
