you are correct, nobody can "register copyright" or "copyright work from<br>
someone else".<br>
The french pirates have apparently registered a trademark for their logo<br>
like the german pirates have done with their logo.<br>

Registering a trademark seems to be self-defense to make sure not to be<br>
sued by somebody else for use of their own logo.<br>
