I like the idea a lot and I also floated the idea of Pirate learning group
2 Points, in order to not reinvent the wheel

1. There are already platforms that cater to this, Coursera, Udacity etc.
which are very well done
- What would it take to set up a class on one of these?
2. Why not engage collectively into what is offered already. Maybe that
makes for a good start : https://www.coursera.org/course/changetheworld
Tapping into education proactively is just a new vector that online classes
offer. I suppose campaigning can be very efficient if approached thoroughly
in virtual classrooms.
"Not reinvent the wheel" Yes, but improve it if possible.

An academy is interesting for the quality and the true value of the
diploma and the courses you can get.

Coursera is really great, but the diploma are really expensive and most
of them are not necesserly recognize everywhere.

Does a partnership wit UNESCO should be a part of the value of the
diploma?

Does that diploma will have a value all arround the world?

How does that diploma will cost exactly for the student?

If it cost $0 for the student, how does that courses + diploma will cost
for the organisation?

RMS, one day told me something approximativly saying ::
Ideas are great but who, how ... (which ressources)?
Sorry I don't know about diplomas or the price of them but I am sure there
is plenty of discussion online.
All online classes I have signed up to have been free of charge.

If you want my opinion on how they are going to make money of it, than I
think that accumulating content and users is key in order to become the go
to resource. The Google of education so to speak. It's common practice.
