det här känns ju som något vi borde lura iväg en dalarna-bo till, så
att vi kan utöka vår skara med någon intet ont anande dalkulla eller
-mas.

Marhaba!
The Young Leaders Social Media Café is a spin off from the Young Leaders Visitors Program
initiated by the Swedish Institute for young leaders from around the MENA region.
With new digital platforms bridging divides and a vast capacity for the young adults from the Arab
world to engage in their communities, social media like Wikipedia, Facebook, YouTube, mobile
technology and blogs can erode cultural barriers and shatter common misperceptions. In order to
make an impact and drive change, the opinion-makers of tomorrow need to be better equipped and
better connected than ever before.
The Young Leaders Visitors Program was successfully launched in 2008 as an intercultural
leadership program supporting the development of young leaders through a combination of
personal growth and practical experience, focusing on social media as a tool for positive change.
The YLVP network now comprises more than 100 young driven leaders from all around the MENA
region in addition to Sweden and other western countries.
With the growing network of driven young leaders, growing collaborations and projects and the
increasing media hype around the YLVP, we wanted to continue this positive snow ball effect to
inspire larger numbers of young people to push for change within their communities. The Young
Leaders Social Media Café is NOW finally on the move!
The YLSMC is a monthly meeting that will take place in different cities around the MENA region. It is
an open space for young leaders of all fields to share, discuss and plan social entrepreneurial
projects. It also aims to create learning opportunities in the area of free expression, the role of new
network technologies and social media in driving processes of social change in addition to finding
cross sectoral synergies.
In such a social space the possibilities for new ideas to get tested, new projects started, new
entrepreneurial contacts built and new knowledge disseminated are huge. It allows for a mix of
cultural, educational, technical, business and social activists who may never otherwise meet and
cross-fertilize. The concept is flexible enough to work in different ways suitable to the social and
cultural context.
The main aim of YLSMC is to lay a foundation for dialogue, mutual understanding and
knowledge-sharing among young opinion-makers from around the MENA region. YLSMC strives to
strengthen participants in their prospects to drive processes for social change in their respective
contexts.
The international launch of the YLSMC will take place at the International Youth Forum 'Rework the
World' [www.reworktheworld.org] between 2 - 5 June in Leksand, Sweden.
Marhaba!
Yalla join other young adults
and help in 'Rethinking the World Socially'!
Regards,
YLSMC Team
