Having delt with trekkies (at least in europe) for several years (I used to run a fan group, and hold conventions) it's unlikely, as most can't organise a piss-up in a brewery. Nowadays, most seem to think that second life is 'real life' as much as anything. In fact, its something i see being more prevelent amongst more 'young people' (I'm 27 does that mean I get to call them young people yet, or am i still included in that?) that they think about online, and not the real world. Even Stephen Colbert noticed it, when he talked about the 'don't taser me bro' kid, how the others sat and did nothing, and then went home and blogged about it.

kids these days...
