    Perhaps the confusion is simple. A conceptual distinction must be made 
    between THE copyright law, and A (subjective) copyright.

This distinction should be natural for any programmer.  A copyright
attaches to a specific work; the copyright law says what that means.
Reducing the unjust power that copyright holders exercise today is not
a matter of changing individual copyrights.  It is a matter of
changing the copyright law.
