The unfortunate fact is that if one wants to gain real influence,
there is a point where you have to start adding non-core issues to the
agenda. If you don't, your votes will forever be limited to those
you'll gain from a very limited group - and even those will start to
diminish, as other parties begin picking up your ideas.
Look at the history of the other political parties. Every party
started out with a limited agenda, but eventually expanded to cover
more things. That's the way how e.g. the various Green parties have
managed to become important, after having started out with a limited
agenda.
