    The Google
    Android sort of accomplishes this, but it is not completely open, only the
    software is.

Android is a program which is release by Google as free software.

However, the Google G1 phone is different from Android.
It contains non-free programs.  For instance, I think it contains
a non-free, tivoized version of Linux, the kernel.  I think its
copy of Android is also non-free in this way.
