Anyway, American scientific publications can often be found on the Internet, 
whereas German magazines tend to be so strict on copyright that scientists 
who publish in those magazines (and they have to, as a condition for 
subsidies) often loose the right to publish their own work elsewhere. For 
completeness: these scientists typically are not paid for their 
contributions. Sometimes they even have to pay to be published.

So at least in this fields, the Americans seem to have a better 
understanding of the potential of Internet.
