While only a few of us will have a chair in Brussels, more pirates can be
politically active in Brussels.
Today a dutch pirate named Robbie Hontelé came to me with a invitation.
Robbie is employed at neth-er.
Neth-ER (Netherlands house for Education and Research) is an international
association of Dutch organisations in the fields of education, research and
innovation based in Brussels.
He invites us for a seminar. I will paste a part of the invitation.
Open Access – What are the economic benefits?
Knowledge Exchange seminar in Brussels 22 June 2009
The Knowledge Exchange seminar "Open Access - What are the economic
benefits?" is getting closer. The seminar is taking place in Brussels 22
June 2009 9:00 - 12:30 CET.
Registration is open until 14 June 2009 by email to
amw at knowledge-exchange.info.
At the seminar professor John Houghton, Victoria University, Australia,
will present his findings of three cost-benefit analyses on alternative
publishing models. The studies are conducted in Denmark, the Netherlands
and UK and show that an open-access future for academic publishing would
save money while boosting the profile of research and maximising its
economic impact.
John Houghton’s presentation will be followed by a discussion on
implications for stakeholders, for details, please see the attachment
“Seminar Programme”.
Knowledge Exchange is a partnership between Denmark's Electronic Research
Library (DEFF), the German Research Foundation (DFG), the UK's Joint
Information Systems Committee (JISC), and the SURFfoundation (SURF) in the
Netherlands. The four partners aim at improving the digital infrastructure
for information and communication technology as it relates to the research
and university library sectors. The ultimate ambition of Knowledge Exchange
is to make a layer of scholarly and scientific content openly available on
the Internet.
