[pp.int.general] The Piratebay

All,
First and foremost, thank you Jerry for your concern. This should be
a decision for each party to make.
Second, Owen Khan and Andrew Norton have voiced concerns. They are
valid caveats. As a political party, we cannot overtly endorse, condone,
assist, or otherwise associate with known law-breaking persons/entities.
Period. We would lose our tax-exempt status and possibly be forcibly
dissolved. This is unacceptable. Even if this is not a situation that
our fellow pirate parties face in their respective countries, it is
still a decision that should not be made lightly. TPB's maintainers have
not helped their own cause, and TPB itself is viewed as questionably
legal, or (until another decision is handed down by a judge) even
outright illegal. No matter where our sympathies lie, associating or
endorsing an illegal entity is something that most pirate parties should
avoid.
Third, this topic has been discussed in the past without much
result. (

) I'd like to incorporate the recent news of PPSE hosting TPB into
saying this again - your actions are blurring a delicate line, and send
the wrong message ripping across the seas. I hope that Mr. McNeil agrees
with me when I say that we cannot simply become "The Pirate Bay Party"
and simply act as a lobby group for Reservella. Should a majority of
parties chose to freely associate with TPB, it would quickly amount to a
vote of non-confidence in all parties, including PPI. At best, that
would result in our abdication.

Allow me to reiterate: we have more trenchant policies and platforms
to pursue than to vindicate illicit filesharers. While filesharing may
be intrinsic to a pirate party, it is not a major facet. I will mention
in passing that while copyright reform is essential, it is not exclusive
to peer-to-peer systems.
