[pp.int.general] Canadian Pirate candidate the first one outside Europe?

Hello,

We got a question from a journalist about Pirates' participation in
elections. He asked whether the Canadian Pirate Party's candidate in the
upcoming by-election in Winnipeg North marks the first running of a Pirate
Party outside Europe. Is he really the first one outside Europe?

Afaik there have been candidates that have been endorsed by Pirate Parties
in the US, but no own Pirate candidates. I can't recall any candidatures
from South-America, Asia or Africa. According to the FAQ from the Australian
PP they are not yet officially recognized so no candidates there.

That would mean that Yes, the Canadian candidate is the first one outside
Europe. I that correct?
