Hola José,

Well that's a question easy to answer. Benefits of a electronic
identity cards: You can sign documents with them. DNIe provides a
secure auhentication mechanism. If you sign a document with DNIe, it's
a legally valid and binding signature. All big banks in Spain provide
authentication using DNIe.

You can collect legally valid and binding signatures for Legislative
Initiatives via Internet, and do the rent declaration via Internet
using DNIe, and essentially lots of tramits with the administration
can be done electronically using DNIe. And as you can see, not only
with administration: also with banks, and with an increasing number of
companies and organizations. You could use DNIe as an authentication
method for entering in areas with restricted security. All with a
single card.

Many repressive measures have well known benefits. The problem is not
that they don't have benefits. The problem is that despite all the
benefits, there are also drawbacks which are much bigger, and that our
liberties and privacy would suffer with them. Essentially: the end
doesn't justify the means.

Regards,
   Eduardo.
