[pp.int.general] Forum and website back online

I'd like to explain the history of the curent situation a little bit
more in detail as far as I know it (anyone might correct me):
PPI was an informal initiative that was started back in the early days.
Rick (SE) setup the pirateweb.net together with this mailing list
which was always running fine AFAIK.
infinite_emma (SE) and some others setup the forum and the Drupal on a
different host.
This host always had certain problems; when I started the coreteam in
2009 it also went down, it was difficult (rather: almost impossible)
to get in contact with the host provider and no one from the coreteam
could get hold of login data for migration.
After the formal foundation of the PPI in Belgium in 2010 the new PPI
board got a contract with a German host sponsor, where they setup a
lot of the new services like parrot.pp-international.net and
lists.pp-international.net (a new mail list server)...however even
though a new possibility arose to get the data of the Drupal & phpBB
Gregory was unable to migrate it, as the host configuration differed
severely from the new one in Germany and there was no one around
helping out. Then in late 2010 that host went down again and couldn't
be restored.
However just around the PPI conference 2011 Gregory could get in
contact with Johan (SE) who helped out migrating the Drupal and phpBB
to a new host, as he obviously had the possibility to access a backup
of that old host and to migrate it to a new one in Sweden; so it was
restored and the relevant domain pointer was changed accordingly.
If you're asking me, what PPI needs foremost is not equipment
(although there's still room for improvement with the current setup;
but please always with proper contracts!); what it needs foremost is
people that are able and willing to take care of the infrastructure
and a proper backup plan. These people shouldn't necessarily be within
the board IMO, but in close contact with it and be somewhat
accountable; as the board members were not elected because of their
technical skills, but more because of their management skills.
