Growing sugar and burning it does not contribute to global heating
provided it does not use petroleum-based fertilizers.

As you pointed out, doing increasing amounts of this might have other
bad effects.  Deforestation and food shortage come to mind.  But this
is nothing compared to the deforestation and food shortage that global
heating is going to cause.
