[pp.int.general] Online voting versus online discussion

I have always thought it was funny when people automatically assume,
because we are a "technology party", that we would be for things like
e-voting. To me, because I understand technology, I know that there is
no good democratically secure method of evoting (and I am not sure there
ever will be).

That being said, our standards for a private group whose membership is
private and by approval only, we have different standards than a
government whose citizens cannot opt out of being members. We can assume
a basic level of trust within our organization, if our members cannot
trust PPI, they always have the option of leaving the organization.

I am not arguing for or against evoting taking place in PPI elections,
simply stating that holding ourselves to the same criteria as national
elections is silly in my opinion.
