it should be also against the revision of IPRED 2004/48/EC

http://ec.europa.eu/governance/impact/planned_ia/docs/2011_markt_006_review_enforcement_directive_ipr_en.pdf

IPRED is the Interlectual Rights Enforcement Directive which was passed
2004. In 2007 "IPRED2" failed and was rejected, this time they want to
focus on the internet.

"What are the main problems which this initiative will address?

The Directive has not been designed to deal with the challenges posed by
the internet. The internet and digital technologies have added a new
dimension to enforcement of intellectual property rights."

Next to customers and rightsholders the revision will impact third parties.
"Other possible impacted parties may include various intermediaries such
as Internet Platforms, Internet Service Providers or transport
establishments who could play an important role in the fight against
infringements of intellectual property rights."

The three policy options that are being discussed are:

a) rendering the rules on obtaining evidence from intermediaries more
detailed thus making possible the identification of those infringing
intellectual property rights on a commercial scale and of the financial
circuits involved. This would be particularly important to fight IPR
infringement in the on-line environment. [...]

b) fast-track low- cost civil procedures (including as regards the
granting of injunctions, the award of damages, the use of corrective
measures etc)

(c) the possibility to act against webpages holding content that
violates intellectual property rights

For me, every one of these options may have significient impact on civil
rights and must be dealt with.

So, spread the word, inform people about ACTA and IPRED and have a nice
9th june ;)

Greetings,
Markus
