I am running the website piraten-streaming.de, providing streaming
services for the european pirates for a couple of years now, and I am
feeling like groundhog day - as we had this discussion over and over
again. (Let me wave to RSM, as he has pointed his arrows on this subject
at least twice now)
I share the opinion that the most important part of freedom is to let
have people the choice what software they want to use. Though I am using
proprietary software (which should be my own free choice as a free
computer user) I don't want to force people into using it. This is why
we always provide an rtsp stream with an h.264 codec.
I am aware that might not fit the "political" demands (as it is not ogg
which seems to be the only political correct solution which will prevent
you from hell fire), but you can watch the stream without being forced
into using proprietary software.
Users who other decides (eg iOS devices) to watch the stream should also
be considered. If I am forced by a streaming provider into installing
other software, or cannot watch the stream because my devices will not
support this, I'd be pissed - so I am trying to find a midway between
"RMS politically correct way" and fitting all demands of the users out
there. Called being barrier-free.
Oh and I am aware that just providing a stream which can be watched in a
flash player will make me burn in hell, so you can leave that out :)
Best Regards
Wolfgang
