I would suggest some art actionism. Try to communicate your political 
views via art and make it intresting for people,
I think that this would help to get some media attention and to make 
people a little bit prying.

But the idea with the girls works out as well, but I don't think in a 
conservative country such as the US
(to the exception of some federal states).

A demonstration would be another method to gain some media attention. If 
you call every Pirate from
the region (not just Utah), it would be a possibility to show that there 
are people who stand up for these issues.
