Many criminals make some sort of mistake, or something goes wrong with
their plans.  It follows that security measures CAN do good, even if a
perfectly executed "Mission Impossible" plan could fool them.

This does not mean that all "security" measures really contribute security.
But we shouldn't assume that all of them are useless, either.
