Didn't find any figures. But according to spiegel.de they have spent
more than 200.000 hours of work and receive money and computers from
spiegel to get their costs covered.
There is a lot of leeway in that statement; I am not sure, concretely,
what Spiegel paid for. Did Spiegel pay wages for 200,000 hours of
digitization of specific books? Or was this 200,000 hours of
volunteer labor to digitize books, and Spiegel provided publication
servers and funds to operate them? It isn't clear, but the latter
seems more likely given those words.
