I'd love to take a look at what you are putting together if you have the time 
at some point.. with civicrm I note that you can do the encryption yourself 
(disk and comms), but it still doesn't seem to do what I want..

Yeah, we tend to use mumble/VOIP and POTS for meetings and mailing lists for 
anything asynchronous, but it does still leave some people out.

We are using that, probably the best bit of kit available for collaborative 
writing.
